SkinOps

Frequently asked questions

General questions about using SkinOps. For questions about your health, please speak to a qualified healthcare professional.

What is SkinOps?

SkinOps is an independent directory of private providers in England that offer minor skin surgery, such as mole, cyst, lipoma and skin tag removal. You can compare providers and contact them directly.

Does SkinOps give medical advice?

No. SkinOps is an information directory and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Speak to a qualified healthcare professional about your symptoms. For urgent help, call NHS 111, or 999 in an emergency.

Can I have minor skin surgery on the NHS?

The NHS usually only removes moles, skin tags, cysts and similar growths when there is a medical reason. Removal for cosmetic reasons is usually done privately. Your GP can advise whether you are eligible for NHS treatment. See NHS advice on moles.

Do I need a GP referral?

Many private clinics do not need a referral, but some do, so ask the clinic when you contact them. If a mole or lump is changing in size, shape or colour, bleeding or itching, speak to a GP first.

How are search results ordered?

Results are shown nearest first by default. You can also sort by price or CQC rating. Providers cannot pay to change the order of the main results.

What does Featured mean?

Featured providers pay to appear in a separate, clearly labelled section at the top of relevant results. They go through exactly the same checks as every other provider.

Where do the prices come from?

Prices come from providers’ websites, information providers give us and our own research. Prices change, so always confirm the cost with the provider before booking.

What is a CQC rating?

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. It inspects services and rates them Outstanding, Good, Requires improvement or Inadequate. Not every service has been rated.

How do you check providers?

Every listing is reviewed by a person before it is published, and each detail shows where it came from. Information gathered with AI assistance is labelled and never shown as verified until it has been checked. Read how we check providers.

Does SkinOps collect my personal information?

You do not need an account to use SkinOps and we do not use tracking or advertising cookies. When you search by location, the place you type is sent to a postcode lookup service to find it on the map. Read our privacy policy for details.

I run a clinic. How do I get listed or correct my details?

Get in touch through our contact page with your clinic name and website. We will check your details and add or update your listing. Listing is free.
